How Junior Warrant points work
A dog can gain the Junior Warrant by winning 25 points between 6 and 18 months of age. At least 3 points must come from Championship shows with CCs on offer for the breed, and at least 7 from Open shows or Championship shows without CCs.
Once your puppy has the points, you have six months from that show to apply to the Royal Kennel Club.
Read the Junior Warrant rules on the Royal Kennel Club website| Where | What counts | Points |
|---|---|---|
| Championship show, CCs on offer for the breed | Each 1st in a breed class with 3 or more dogs present | 3 each |
| Championship show, CCs on offer for the breed | Only if there were no class wins: Best of Breed or Best of Sex, Best Puppy of Sex, or Best Puppy in Breed, with enough dogs beaten | 3 each |
| Open show, or Championship show without CCs for the breed | With two or more of the breed there, including yours: a 1st in a breed or AVNSC class having beaten at least one other dog, Best of Breed, Best of Sex, or Best Puppy. At Open shows also a 1st in an Any Variety class having beaten one other, and a group placing or Best in Show award (these count even if yours was the only one of the breed) | 1 per show |
Questions
- How many points do you need for a Junior Warrant?
- 25 points, won between 6 and 18 months of age. At least 3 must come from Championship shows with CCs on offer for the breed, and at least 7 from Open shows or Championship shows without CCs.
- Can I claim more than one point from an Open show?
- No. Only one point can be claimed from any one Open show, however many classes your puppy wins.
- When do I have to apply?
- Within six months of the show where your puppy reached the warrant. The calculator gives you the date.
- My breed doesn't have CCs. Can it get a Junior Warrant?
- Breeds without CCs, and Imported Register breeds, have the Junior Award instead: 20 points, counted since 1 July 2025. Ring & Rosette works out whichever applies to your breed.
- Is this the official calculation?
- It follows the Royal Kennel Club's published scale. For each win it asks a quick check, such as whether enough dogs were there. Any check left unanswered counts as a yes, so always check your claim before you apply.
For older dogs, try the Veteran Warrant calculator.
